CIBSE Home Counties:

The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) is the standard setter and authority on building services engineering. It publishes Guidance and Codes which are internationally recognised as authoritative, and sets the criteria for best practice in the profession.

The Institution is organised on a regional basis - there are 16 regions in the UK and 3 overseas, in the Republic of Ireland, Australia & New Zealand, and Hong Kong. With CIBSE members in 80 countries, many international members live outside the formal regions - for example there are informal member groupings in Dubai, Malaysia and Mainland China.

CIBSE Home Counties speaks for the profession in Greater London area and so are consulted by local and central government on matters relating to construction, engineering and sustainability.

Complex Built Environment Systems (CBES) Group at the Bartlett, University College London:

The Bartlett at University College London is the UK 's largest multidisciplinary faculty of the built environment. It runs undergraduate, MSc, professional and doctoral programmes across a full range of built environment disciplines including, construction, environmental design, architecture, planning and virtual environments.

The ‘environment' area of Bartlett research is one of the largest and most mature within the Bartlett and has expanded significantly over the last five years to a team of fourteen core funded permanent staff. This group of building scientists who research environmental problems are now restructuring into the ‘Complex Built Environment Systems' (CBES) group. CBES is primarily interested in developing solutions to the practical problems of designing, constructing and managing appropriate environments within and around buildings. CBES aims to tackle the following three main issues:

• How to design, maintain and operate the built environment while minimising the emissions of greenhouse gases.

• How to adapt the environment, fabric and services of existing and new buildings to climate change.

• How to improve the environment in and around buildings to provide better health, comfort, security and productivity.

  • Short CPD

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is the system that professional bodies, such as CIBSE and RIBA use to maintain, improve, and broaden the knowledge and skill that architects and engineers need to perform their professional duties throughout their professional life.

E-modules offer an effective alternative to traditional learning with the additional benefits of greater accessibility and flexibility.
